Otterbein SeniorLife Neighborhoods provide skilled nursing, rehab, memory support, and long-term care for elders (residents). Our small house neighborhoods offer a unique approach to nursing care where each small house has 12 private suites, delivering personalized care by a dedicated interdisciplinary team.

The small house environment encourages independence, freedom, and choices where elders set their own schedules and are actively involved in activities, meal planning, and overall daily living. The home-like surroundings create a comfortable, active lifestyle where elders thrive and experience a higher quality of life and a sense of well-being.

Resident Life and Meaningful Activities

Because of its small size, a small house neighborhood allows elders to participate in activities customized to their interests and hobbies. A quality of life coordinator, coach, and guide work together with each elder to create a personal development plan of goals, interests, and more.

Small house elders enjoy a variety of activities, including educational, spiritual, cultural, recreational, and social. Off-campus outings are often planned to local restaurants, shops, museums, parks, holiday displays, and any other destinations the elders want to explore.

Inside each small house, elders have access to numerous amenities and special features you’re unlikely to find in traditional nursing care, including the following:

  • WiFi access
  • Flat-screen cable TVs
  • Sitting area around a central hearth
  • Private salon and spa
  • Outdoor fenced-in patio and garden
  • Private suites with private baths
  • Home-cooked meals served family-style
  • Therapy room for physical, occupational, and speech therapy services
  • One-on-one attention from caregivers

Elders set their own schedules each day, which means they can get up when they’re ready, eat when they’re hungry, and participate in activities of their choice. Family and friends are welcome and encouraged to be actively involved in meals and resident life activities.

Each small house family celebrates birthdays, holidays, and other special occasions together. There’s a strong sense of friendship, community, and belonging.

Supportive Care and Services

Otterbein SeniorLife Neighborhoods provide supportive care and services to meet the individual needs of the elders. The following care services are available in the small houses:

  • Skilled nursing
  • Rehabilitation: physical, occupational, and speech therapies
  • Long-term care
  • Memory support for residents living with Alzheimer’s or dementia

Elders in need of these services receive care without having to leave their small house. An interdisciplinary team uses the therapy room, a relaxing and quiet space, for rehab support focused on strength, balance, and mobility. The private, comfortable environment helps lessen anxiety and noise often experienced in larger therapy settings.
