Assisted living resident Marian G. has had quite a journey – from a hospital stay to post-acute care to assisted living. And she’ll be the first to tell you that she wouldn’t be where she is now without Otterbein Cridersville.

As a former caregiver, Marian knew a continuing care retirement community would be the best choice for both her and her husband. In the video below, she describes what brought her to Otterbein and how positive her experience has been.

Post-Acute Care and Rehabilitation at Otterbein Cridersville

Marian had been the primary caregiver for her husband, but after a two-month hospital stay, she needed additional care and rehabilitation to maintain her independence. This meant that her husband needed to move to a senior living community, and their children chose Otterbein Cridersville.

Naturally, choosing Otterbein for her post-acute care was a no-brainer for Marian since her husband was already settled there. Once she arrived, she was floored by the quality of care and the progress she made.

“The care that I got in rehab has made me progress to what I am now. Being able to walk with just a walker when I came was very difficult,” she said. “Now, I can stand by myself and balance. I still have a long way to go, but I’ve come a long way and it’s because of the staff, the therapists that I’ve had.”

The top-notch care wasn’t the only factor in Marian’s progress. It was also the manner in which the partners (staff) cared for her that made a lasting impression.

“I know all of the nurses by name and the aides. Everybody that has been associated with me and helped me in any way has been more than gracious in helping whatever I needed,” she said. “And I can’t say enough about each one.”

As she transitioned from post-acute care to assisted living, the partners were there every step of the way to help her, and she is making steady progress toward her goals of independence and mobility. Currently, she is on the waitlist for an independent living home or apartment.

Peace of Mind About Whatever the Future Holds

After all she’s been through, Marian is thankful for the security and peace of mind she now has about the future, for both herself and her husband.

“[I have] peace of mind knowing that I will be cared for if anything happens to me and he will be cared for,” she said. “That’s probably my favorite part of not having to worry about our health or what happens to us.”
