Moving to a continuing care retirement community like Otterbein Cridersville is a fresh start in many ways. Likewise, moving into an apartment or patio home is like starting with a blank slate – you can make each room whatever you want it to be.

Several Otterbein Cridersville residents love to customize their patio homes, especially when it comes to their sunrooms (also known as a four-seasons room or Florida room). Here are some fun examples from our residents.

When independent living residents Paul and Ruby K. were searching for a retirement community, they knew they wanted a home with plenty of living space as well as a garage. “We love that we have a garage where we can pull right in and unload our groceries,” says Ruby. “We don’t have to climb stairs to go to our home.”

Paul and Ruby also have a large family that visits often, so they knew they would need plenty of room to entertain. They were excited to choose a home with a four-season Florida room, where they could have an additional dining room and gathering space. They love the view from the beautiful wrap-around windows.

For residents like John and Kim W., a sunroom is ideal for hobbies that require extra space. John is a HAM radio enthusiast, and he was very excited he was able to bring his HAM radio system to Otterbein when he and Kim downsized. Nicknamed the “HAM Shack,” the sunroom is also John’s go-to spot to practice his saxophone.

Sunroom/Patio as a Gathering Spot: Margie C. and the Ladies on Swallow Court

Otterbein Cridersville is home to several avid gardeners, and surrounding your sunroom or patio with lovely flora makes it the perfect place to gather with friends for fellowship. That’s precisely what resident Margie C. does. She and her neighbors on Swallow Court gather on Margie’s front patio for cocktails and to catch up.
