“It’s a wonderful place to live.” - Geri C., Otterbein Marblehead resident

Otterbein Marblehead is a close-knit continuing care retirement community located on the shores of Lake Erie, halfway between Sandusky and Port Clinton, Ohio. Resident Geri C., one of over 100 residents at Otterbein Marblehead, affectionately calls the community home — and after visiting the campus, you’ll quickly see why she and others move here.

Why Residents Choose Otterbein Marblehead

1. Maintenance-Free Lifestyle

Otterbein Marblehead offers a variety of floor plans to suit everyone. There are studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments for those who wish to be closer to the campus center. And for residents who prefer patio homes, there are one- and two-bedroom floor plans with several square footage options.

“I love my patio home because it has a sunroom, and I spend most of my in-home time in the sunroom,” says Geri. “I have an absolutely beautiful view of a wooded area.”

Patio homes feature beautiful sunrooms that provide natural light year-round. Utilities and maintenance services are included in all independent living apartments and homes.

No matter where you live in Otterbein Marblehead, you’ll be close to the action and have access to all the amenities the community offers. Residents are encouraged to maintain an active, independent lifestyle where they choose what interests them.

“Services are provided so you have a beauty shop here, and they also have transportation to grocery stores,” says Geri. “And then we have activities that are planned each month. I enjoy the programs they have in the summer that we can attend, and I also enjoy the areas where I can walk and be safe.”

Here are some of the convenient amenities:

3. Unique Location

The Otterbein Marblehead campus sits on 46 acres of woods and is blocks away from Lake Erie's shores and historic Lakeside Chautauqua. Residents enjoy resort-style living in a quiet, friendly neighborhood on Marblehead Peninsula

Many residents take advantage of the nearby events and attractions, including taking a ferry to the islands, touring local wineries, and visiting historical sites like the Marblehead Lighthouse. 4. Helpful Services

“We offer social services and wellness services for our residents and their families,” says Social Services Director Stacy McMurray. “In my role, I serve as an advocate for the residents and their loved ones by connecting them to both on-site and off-site resources.”

Stacy ensures residents remain as independent as possible by setting up home health, personal care assistants, medical equipment, laundry assistance, housekeeping services, and medication management as needed. She also facilitates spiritual support for residents and their loved ones.

Routine wellness checks are provided to independent living residents under the wellness program. This beneficial wellness service provides a proactive way to identify health concerns. Once identified, the appropriate services are lined up so each resident can live life to the fullest each day.

5. Continuing Care

As a continuing care retirement community, Otterbein Marblehead has multiple levels of care to ensure resident health care needs are met. The levels of care include independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing and long-term care, rehabilitation services, and memory care support.

Residents and their loved ones experience peace of mind knowing that care is available on campus if their needs change.

“Residents appreciate knowing their adult children won’t have to make decisions on their behalf because they’ve already decided where they want to live and receive additional care if they need it,” says Stacy.

A helpful interdisciplinary team is always on hand to assist residents with challenges or concerns. Director of Marketing & Independent Living SeniorLife Counselor Mollie Rauscher has already witnessed this in her new role at Otterbein Marblehead.

“Otterbein SeniorLife has over 100 years of experience providing premier senior living options,” says Mollie. “And we have creative solutions for any obstacle you may be facing.”

6. Close-Knit Community

“I have lived in the area for my entire life, and it has been the greatest joy and pleasure to work in the community where I live,” says Stacy. “Everyone knows everybody — residents and staff included. It feels like we’re all connected, similar to an extended family, where neighbors quickly become friends.”

New residents are welcome to the community during a special party where all residents and staff are invited to meet and greet the newcomers. The leadership team also plays an important role in helping residents acclimate to their new surroundings. They set aside time to visit with each new resident, introducing themselves and explaining their role in the community.

Geri has been a resident at Otterbein Marblehead for over five years and has benefitted from the smaller community feel.

“I like the closeness of the friends that you can meet here,” says Geri.
