Searching for a senior living community for a loved one can be challenging. If you’re looking for a parent, you might be experiencing some guilt as you encourage Mom or Dad to find a community that offers assistance with daily activities that are becoming increasingly difficult. Distance and a busy schedule may prevent you from providing this needed assistance yourself.

Ultimately, your loved one must feel safe with his/her needs met, and the senior living community should feel like home. It’s a big decision for all involved.

“Otterbein always stuck in my mind and in her mind as a nice place to stay and be,” said Myles H., son of Otterbein resident Treva H.

Watch the video below to learn more about Treva’s journey to Otterbein and how it provides Myles with peace of mind.

A Culture of Caring at Otterbein Cridersville

“The organization here seems to have a culture of caring,” said Myles. Myles’ mom, Treva, was very mobile and active during most of her senior years so she was able to visit friends at Otterbein and similar senior living communities.

When the time came for Treva to decide where she wanted to live, it was a fairly easy decision. Myles shared his mom’s observation when making the decision: “I’ve always enjoyed the folks at Otterbein. They’ve been very good to my friends. So I choose Otterbein.”

Otterbein Cridersville has an active social scene offering a wide variety of things to do and events to participate in. Treva joined the Bible study group and enjoys the activities, open areas, and camaraderie among friends.

“She has a whole new group of friends. There are wonderful people that work here, and there are wonderful people that stay here,” added Myles.

“The nurses - I can’t say enough about the nurses at the nurses’ station,” added Myles. “They will take time to speak to you. It’s wonderful - wonderful.”

As Myles notes in the video, the nursing staff is a phone call away, and that provides peace of mind, especially for loved ones that live in a different state.
