Otterbein Cridersville resident Gloria S. has called Otterbein home since 2018. Now living in an apartment on campus, she says she enjoys her home and the people in the community. Read more about Gloria’s story below.

Apartment Life at Otterbein Cridersville

Gloria has nothing but praise for her one-bedroom apartment home and says she enjoys the convenience of living in the heart of campus.

“It’s very private - it fits my needs completely,” she said. “I have a nice patio, and my daughter can come and visit that way.”

Gloria occupies her time with some of her favorite activities - like doing puzzles, which are available for residents to share, and walking outdoors on the paths through campus. She also enjoys swimming at the pool (which is open by appointment).

“You can come and go as you please. Nobody tells you when you can go or when you can’t,” she added.

Care and Services

Gloria originally came to Otterbein after she broke her leg in winter 2018. Her therapy and rehabilitation continue to take place right on campus, which she says is a bonus.

“It’s been wonderful - there was no need to go someplace else for that,” she said.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, although some things have changed, Gloria said the staff at the community has been helpful.

“The people here were very courteous and kind when they had to come every day to take our temperature or our other vitals … and if we need them, we can have the services like housekeeping,” she said.

When staff helped residents place video calls to family members during the early days of the pandemic, Gloria also took part. She said that compared to other friends and family members who live elsewhere, she thinks life at Otterbein is easier and safer.

“I just feel very independent,” she said.
