LSVT BIG Physical Therapy for Parkinson’s Disease
Lee Silverman Voice Technique (LSVT) BIG is a research-backed therapy that can help people with Parkinson’s disease improve their range of motion and ability to do everyday activities. This could include things like fine-motor skills (buttoning a shirt, picking up a pen) or large-motor skills (sitting down in or standing up from a chair).
The therapy is customized to every person depending on their needs, stage of the disease, and goals. It can help both in the early stages of the disease for maximum impact, or even in later stages to help improve your quality of life.
How does the therapy work? It’s typically divided into four one-hour sessions per week, over four weeks. The person receiving therapy works with a licensed therapist on their goals, with at-home work to do in-between sessions. It changes the way people move; not just during the therapy treatment, but for life.
Parkinson's can be challenging because it continues to progress as time goes on. LSVT is different because it teaches people about strategies to use both now and in the future.
